In this article we will tall you about detailed Laxmi Puja Vidhi for Diwali. You have to buy new statue of Goddess Laxmi or you can use old statue which is in good condition (Silver moorti is best), as the Puja Vidhi is for Pratima (statue). You have to do all steps of the worship which collectively are known as Shodashopachara Puja.

  • Dhoop stick
  • Akshat (Raw full grain rice uncooked)
  • Photo or Idol of Goddess Lakshmi with Lord Ganesha and Goddess Saraswati

  • Coriander seeds
  • Cotton seeds
  • Flower Garland (Made of Rose or Lotus. If not available you can use other red or yellow flowers)
  • Scent
  • A Red cloth
  • A Chawki (Small platform made of wood)
  • Supari, cloves, betel nut and cardamom
  • Lotus Flower Seeds
  • Dry whole Turmeric
  • Silver coin

Steps for How to Do Lakshmi Pooja on Diwali

  1. Keep all these things together at one place.
  2. Place clean chawki on your place of puja. Spread red cloth on it.
  3. Place photo/idol of Goddess Lakshmi, Saraswati and Lord Ganesha.
  4. Place 3 mountains of raw rice in front of Goddess Lakshmi photo for Lord Vishnu, Kuber and Indra.
  5. Light a Ghee lamp to start puja. This lamp should be kept lit overnight and also, light dhoop stick.
  6. Pray Lord Ganesha to come and remove all obstacles during Lakshmi puja. Put tilak of roli and akshat on forehead of Lord Ganesha. Offer scent, flowers, dhoop, sweets (naivedya), fruit and earthen lamp to Lord Ganesha.
  7. Now start Lakshmi puja. Put Tilak of roli and rice on forehead of Goddess Lakshmi. Offer scent, flowers, dhoop, sweets, fruit and earthen lamp to Goddess Lakshmi. Now offer coriander seeds, cotton seeds, dry whole turmeric, silver coin, currency notes, supari and seed of lotus flower to Goddess Lakshmi.
  8. Pray to Lord Vishnu to come along with Goddess Lakshmi. Offer scent, flower, dhoop, sweets, fruits and earthen lamp to Lord Vishnu.
  9. Pray to Lord Kuber to come along with Goddess Lakshmi and give wealth. Do worship of lord Kuber by offering earthen lamp, scent, flowers, dhoop and sweets.
  10. Pray to Lord Indra to come along with Goddess Lakshmi and give prosperity. Do worship of Lord Indra by offering scent, flowers, dhoop, sweets and earthen lamp.
  11. Now do worship of Goddess Saraswati. Put tilak on forehead of Goddess Saraswati and put akshat on it. Offer scent, flowers, dhoop, sweets and earthen lamp. Pray to get divine knowledge and guidance on life path.
  12. Now do worship of Elephants in photo. Offer a pair of sugarcane to elephants of Goddess Lakshmi.
  13. Do Lakshmi Arti after this Puja.

Note: – If you wish to do japa of mantra of Maa Laxmi, then the simplest and most powerful mantra is “Shreem Swaha.” Recite this mantra at least 108 times.

The above pooja vidhi is simple puja vidhi without any mantra or procedure which most of us do. If you want to do diwali puja with vedic or Shodashopachara Puja vidhi then follow the below procedure.

Steps of diwali puja vidhi with mantra

Dhyana

You should begin by meditating on the Goddess Laxmi. Place the murti of the Goddess that you have installed previously in front of you. Then, chant the following mantra:

Ya Sa Padmasanastha Vipul-Kati-Tati Padma-Patrayatakshi,

Gambhirartav-Nabhih Stana-Bhara-Namita Shubhra-Vasttariya.

Ya Lakshmirdivya-Roopairmani-Gana-Khachitaih Svapita Hema-Kumbhaih,

Sa Nityam Padma-Hasta Mam Vasatu Grihe Sarva-Maangalya-Yukta.

Aavahan

The second step of the puja Vidhi is the aavahan. Join palms and fold the thumbs inwards. Chant the following mantra.

Aavahan Mantra:

Aagachchha Dev-Deveshi! Tejomayi Maha-Lakshmi!

Kriyamanam Maya Pujaam, Grihaan Sur-Vandite!

Pushpanjali Asana

After you have invoked Goddess Lakshmi, take five flowers with joined hands in Anjali and offer them in front of the murti. Chant the following mantra:

Nana-Ratna-Samayuktam, Karta-Swar-Vibhushitam

Aasanam Dev-Devesh! Preetyartham Prati-Grihyataam.

Swagat

After offering the flower seat to Goddess Laxmi, chant the following mantra:

Shri Laxmi Devi, Swagatham.

Padya

After welcoming the Goddess, offer water to wash her feet. Chant the following mantra:

Padyam Grihaan Deveshi, Sarva-Kshema-Samarthe, Bhoh

Bhaktya Samarpitam Devi, Maha-Lakshmi! Namoastu Te.

Arghya

Follow Padhya with offering of water to wash the head of the Goddess. Chant the following mantra:

Namaste Dev-Deveshi! Namaste Kamal-Dharini

Namaste Shri Maha-Lakshmi, Dhanada-Devi! Arghyam Grihaan

Gandha-Pushpakshatairyuktam, Phal-Dravya-Samanvitam

Grihaan Toyamarghyarthan, Parameshwari Vatsale.

Snana

Now, offer water to the Goddess for bath. Chant the following mantra:

Ganga saraswatirevapayoshninarmadajalaih

Snapitasi Maya Devi Tatha Shantim Kurushva Me

Adityavarne TapasoadhijatoVanaspatistavaVrikshoatha Bilvah

Tasya Phalani Tapasa Nudantu Mayantarayashcha Bahya Alakshmih.

Panchamirta snana

Offer Panchamrita snana to Shri Laxmi. Chant the following mantra:

Dadhi Madhu Ghratashchaiva Payashcha Sharkarayutam

Panchamritam Samanitam Snanartham Pratigrihyatam

Om Panchanadyah Saraswatimapiyanti Sasrotasah

Saraswati Tu Panchadhasodeshebhavat Sarit.

Gandha Snana

This is the offering of the scent bath to the Goddess. Chant the following mantra:

Om Malayachalasambhutam Chandanagarusambhavam

Chandanam Devadeveshi Snanartham Pratigrihyatam.

Shuddha Snana

This step you offer bath with pure water. Chant the following mantra:

Mandakinyastu Yadvari Sarvapapaharam Shubham

Tadidam Kalpitam Tubhyam Snanartham Pratigrihyatam.

Vastra (Clothes)

Now, offer Moli as new clothes to Goddess Laxmi. Chant the following mantra:

Divyambaram Nutanam Hi Kshaumam Tvatimanoharam

Diyamanam Maya Devi Grihana Jagadambike

Upaitu Mam Devasakhah Kirtishch ManinaSaha

Pradurbhuto Surashtreasmin Kirtimriddhi Dadatu Me.

Madhu parka

Now, offer honey and milk to Shri Laxmi. Chant the following mantra:

Om Kapilam Dadhi Kundendudhavalam Madhusamyutam

Swarnapatrasthitam Devi Madhupar kam Grihana Bhoh.

Abhushana (Ornaments)

This is the offering of the jewellery to the Goddess. Chant the following mantra:

Ratnakankada Vaiduryamuktaharayutani Cha

Suprasannena Manasa Dattani Swikurushwa Me

Kshuptipapasamalam Jyeshthamalakshmim Nashayamyaham

Abhutimasamriddhim Cha Sarvannirnuda Me Grahat.

Rakta-chandana

Offer red sandalwood to the Goddess Laxmi. Chant the following mantra:

Om Raktachandanasammishram Parijatasamudbhavam

Maya Dattam Grihanashu Chandanam Gandhasamyutam.

Sindoor

Now offer vermilion for tilak to the Goddess. Chant the following mantra:

Om Sinduram Raktavarnashcha Sinduratilakapriye

Bhaktya Dattam Maya Devi Sinduram Pratigrihyatam.

Kumkuma

Offer kumkuma to Shri Laxmi while chanting the following mantra:

Om Kumkumam Kamadam Divyam Kumkumam Kamarupinam

Akhandakamasaubhagyam Kumkumam Pratigrihyatam.

Abira-Gulala

Offer the auspicious abira-gulala while chanting the following mantra:

Abirashcha Gulalam Cha Chova-Chandanameva Cha

Shringarartham Maya Dattam Grihana Parameshwari.

Sugandhitadravya

Now, offer scent to ShriLaxmi while reciting the following mantra:

Om Tailani Cha Sugandhini Dravyani Vividhani Cha

Maya Dattani Lepartham Grihana Parameshwari.

Akshata

This is the offer of unbroken rice to the Goddess Laxmi. Chant the following mantra:

Akshatashcha Surashreshtha Kumkumaktah Sushobhitah

Maya Nivedita Bhaktya Pujartham Pratigrihyatam.

Gandha-Samarpan/ Chandan-Samarpan

Offer chandan to the Goddess Laxmi while chanting the following mantra:

Shri-Khanda-Chandanam Divyam, Gandhaadayam Sumanoharam

Vilepanam Maha-Lakshmi! Chandanam Prati-Grihyataam.

Pushpa Smarpan

Offer flowers to the Goddess while reciting this mantra:

Yatha-Prapta-Ritu-Pushpaih, Vilva-Tulasi-Dalaishcha

PujayaamiMaha-Lakshmi! Prasida Me Sureshwari

Anga-pujan

Now, worship the gods who are the body parts of the Goddess Laxmi. For doing this, take the Gandha, Akshata, and Pushpa with left hand and leave it in front of the Goddess with the right hand. Chant the following mantra:

Om Chapalaayai Namah Padau Pujayami

Om Chanchalayai Namah Janunee Pujayami

Om Kamalayai Namah Katim Pujayami

Om Katyaayanyai Namah Naabhim Pujayami

Om Jaganmatrai Namah Jatharam Pujayami

Ashta Siddhi Puja

Now, worship Ashta-Siddhi placed near to Goddess Laxmi. For doing this, take the Gandha, Akshata, and Pushpa with left hand and leave it in front of the Goddess with the right hand. Chant the following mantra:

Om Animne NamahOm Mahimne Namah

Om Garimne NamahOm Laghimne Namah

Om Praptyai NamahOm Prakaamyai Namah

Om Ishitaayai NamahOm Vashitaayai Namah

Ashta Lakshmi Puja

Now, do the Ashta-Laksmi Puja. You should do this Puja with Akshata, Chandan, and flowers while chanting this mantra:

Om Aadhya-Lakshmyai NamahOm Vidhya-Lakshmyai Namah

Om Saubhagya-Lakshmyai NamahOm Amrit-Lakshmyai Namah

Now offer dhoop to ShriLaxmi. Chant the following mantra:

Deep Samarpan

Offer deep to the Goddess while chanting the following mantra:

Sajyam Varti-Sanyuktam Cha, Vahnina Yojitam Mayaa

Deepam Grihaan Deveshi! Trailokya-Timirapaham

Bhaktya Deepam Prayachchhaami, Shri Lakshmyai Paratparaayai

Naivedhya Samarpan

Here you offer naivedhyam to the Goddess. Chant the following mantra:

Sharkara-Khanda-Khadyaani, Dadhi-Ksheera-Ghritaani Cha

Aaharo Bhakshya-Bhojyam Cha, Naivedhyam Prati-Grihyataam

Achamana-Samarpan / Jal-Samarpan

Now, offer water to the goddess. Chant the following mantra:

Tatah Paniyam SamarpayamiIti Uttaraposhanam

Hasta-Prakshalanam SamarpayamiMukh-Prakshalanam

Karodvartanarthe Chandanam Samarpayami

Tambool Smarpan

Now offer the betel nut with the supari paan on the tambool to the Goddess Laxmi. Chant the following mantra:

Poogi-Phalam Maha-Divyam, Naga-Valli-Dalairyutam

Karpurailaa-Samayuktam, Tamboolam Prati-Grihyataam

Dakshina

Offer Dakshina to the Goddess Laxmi while chanting the following mantra:

Pradakshina

Now do a symbolic pradakshina circumambulate the Goddess from left to right while offering the flowers and chanting the mantra:

Anyatha Sharanam Naasti, Tvameva Sharanam Devi

Perform Vandana and offer flowers. Chant the following mantra:

Kar-Kritam Vaa Kayajam Karmajam Vaa,

Shravan-Nayanajam Vaa Manasam Vaaparadham

Viditamaviditam Vaa, Sarvametat Kshamasva,

Jaya Jaya Karunaabdhe, Shri Maha-Lakshmi Trahi

Sashtanga-Pranam

Offer sashtanga pranam to the Goddess Laxmi. Chant the following mantra:

Om Bhavani! Tvam Maha-Lakshmih Sarva-Kaam-Pradayini

Prasannaa Santushtha Bhava Devi! Namoastu Te

Kshama Prarthana

Now, seek the pardon of the Goddess Laxmi for any mistakes you made during the puja. Chant the following mantra:

Avahanam Na janami, Na Janami Visarjanam

Puja-Karma Na Janami, Kshamasva Parameshwari

Mantra-Heenam Kriya-Heenam, Bhakti Heenam Sureshwari

Maya Yat-Poojitam Devi! Paripoornam Tadastu Me

Anena Yatha-Militopachaara-Dravyai Krita-Poojanena Shri Lakshmi-Devi Preeyataam
